Triple "E"
History
1992-1993
Mr. Johan S. Berns and Mr. Paul Ridd founded
the league in 1992. These two gentlemen decided to form a team play
pool league for fun as well as to promote area pool establishments
and players in the Edmonton area. They began by soliciting Pool
Halls and Lounges where known players were frequented and thus began
the Edmonton Entry Eight ball Pool
League
(Triple
"E" Pool League).
That year the League started with 14 teams
that played city wide in one division. All players registered with
the teams were also registered with the Alberta Billiards and Snooker Association
(ABSA) to support billiards in the Province of Alberta.
The Billiards
Congress of America (BCA)sanctioned the league in
this season and a team was sent to the national championships.
1993-1994
With the support of teams and players the
league grew to 28 teams and the first singles tournament for league
members was played. At this time a part-time paid administrative
position was appointed. The League Administrator resigns at
Divisionalization, and Alex Hannig becomes League Administrator.
Johan Berns resigns as President and Blair Young becomes President.
1994-1995
The league grew to 44 teams that were placed
into 3 divisions and played citywide. Besides the Singles
tournament, a Fall Classic, year-end and 3 monthly tournaments were
established. A Board of Directors was established consisting of 10
people of whom one position was filled by appointment from the ABSA.
The League also became an official Registered Society – Non-profit
Association. Blair Young resigns as President and Bob Myers becomes
President.
1995-1996
The league consisted of 74 teams that year and
with the growth, the league went to 3 Divisions split north and
south. Our first banquet was held to acknowledge Team play as well
as personal standings (Wins, Points & Eight ball run out, E.R.O.)
1996- 1997
84 Teams on two nights of play made up the
league. This year the inception of the Theo Berns Founder Award was
established. The members nominate this award; the nominations are
screened by the Directors and forwarded to Mr. Berns for approval of
the award winner.
1997-1998
The league consisted of 120 teams on two
nights of play. Bob Myers resigns as President and Dennis Dutton
becomes President.
1998-1999
The league consisted of 116 teams on three
nights of play. The league was affiliated with the BCA and sent 2
out of 4 teams to the BCA Championships in Las Vegas (June 1999).
1999-2000
The league consisted of 108 teams on two
nights of play. The Year end tournament consisted of 56 teams for
the Monday night play which was held at the Q Club. The Wednesday
year end Tournament was held at the Paladium Club and consisted of
26 teams. On a side note, one of our
league members Mr. Benny Onyschuck won the Canadian Eight Ball
Championships held in Toronto Ontario in June of 2000. Congratulations Benny. Dennis Dutton resigns as
President and Bruce King becomes President.
2000-2001
The league consisted of 119 teams on two
nights of play. The Triple "E", Bank shots Pool League, and the
Fraser Valley Pool League formed a tournament called the Rocky
Mountain Team Challenge. It is an annual event held on the Easter
Weekend and alternating between Alberta and British Columbia from
year to year. The first tournament was held at Bank shots Billiards
in Surrey, BC. There were 16 teams that participated.
2001-2002
The league consisted of 136 teams on two
nights of play. The Rocky Mountain Team Challenge was held at the
Q-Club in Edmonton, AB, and there was a field of 36 teams with 4
divisions. Carsten Beyer is elected as President.
2002-2003
The league consisted of 151 teams on two
nights of play. The Rocky Mountain Team Challenge was held at
Bank shots Billiards in Surrey, BC, and there was a field of 18 teams
with 4 divisions. During the last day of the Wednesday Fall Classic
Tournament the League lost it's longest serving President, Bob
Myers. Thus, it was only appropriate that the Fall Classic
Tournament be renamed to the Bob Myers Fall Classic Tournament.
Bob's hard work and integrity were cornerstones in building the
Triple "E" Pool League and he is dearly missed by all that knew him.
2003-2004
The League consisted of about 140 teams on two
nights of play. The Rocky Mountain Team Challenge was held at the
Q-Club in Edmonton, AB, and there was a field of 32 teams with 4

Way. At the end of the season Carsten Beyer resigns as President
and Norm Symington becomes President.

nights of play. North and South Divisions were added to Wednesday
night. The Rocky Mountain Team Challenge was held at Bank shots
Billiards in Surrey, BC,. The B.C. Teams won every division, except
"D" division, which was won by the Cue Club Pogo Pool Pals. The
venue for the banquet moved from the Polish Hall to Bar-B-Q Acres.
2005-2006
The
Triple "E" has
another successful season, with about 154 teams. The Rocky Mountain
Tournament is held at the Cue Club, with Edmonton teams dominating.
Division #1 begins to allow 2 Open players per team on a trial basis. The
League is saddened by the deaths of several long time members (Paul Ridd
(former ABSA President and League founder) and Don Murchison. The
League is also shocked by the violent death of one of it's members
on a transit bus Stefan Will Conley. At the end of the season, Norm
Syminton resigns as President and Pat Ringham becomes President.
2006-2007
The League celebrates it's 15th year in
operation. The Rocky Mountain Team Challenge was held at Bank shots
Billiards in Surrey, BC,. The B.C. Teams won every division, except
"D" division, which was won by the Cue Club B' tween R Buns. The

Edmonton at Finnagan's.
Edmonton teams were
successful in every
division at the
tournament. The
Banquet was moved back
to the Polish Hall and
was a great
success. The year
ended on a sad note in
the summer of 2008 as
long-time member Harper
McCrae passed
away. He will be
dearly missed.
